Prospect Game Jan 18![]() The gamesheet is now up you can click on this link. Prospect game in Fort Erie Jan 18 2010 Tyler Cicchini, Kyle Washer, & Shawn Waldie are all playing in the game tonight. By Dan McCaffery Sarnia Legionnaire playmaking ace Shawn Waldie was the big star at the annual Jr. 'B' Prospects Game last night. Waldie was the top scorer on either side, picking up four assists as players mostly from the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League's Western Conference defeated a team consisting of performers from the league's Midwest and Golden Horseshoe conferences by a 9-5 count. Two other Legionnaires were also in the contest and both did well. In fact, goalie Kyle Washer was credited with the win, while Sarnia captain Tyler Cicchini had an assist. The game, which is for student athletes who are NCAA eligible, was heavily scouted by American colleges. Waldie made his name as a smooth passer last year when he led the Lambton Shores Predators in points with nine goals and 34 assists. After joining the Legionnaires this campaign, the Sarnia native has picked up eight goals and 16 assists, good enough for sixth place in team scoring, despite the fact that he has only played 25 of the club's 39 games. Cicchini, a left-winger, has 15 goals and 13 assists in 34 games. His regular season goal total to date matches his entire output last season. Washer has played more minutes than any other Sarnia goalie this year, something fans may not be aware of because Jesse Raymond has received more starts at home in recent weeks. In all, Washer has played 1,164 minutes, posting a 3.30 goals against average. His save percentage is .912. Legionnaire notes:

Sarnia Legionnaires Media Release![]() The Sarnia Legionnaires Jr. Hockey Club is proud to announce today that Jeff Perry is our Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations for the 2009-2010 upcoming season and it is our wish, for many seasons to come. Bill Abercrombie who held both positions in our inaugural championship season has left us and is moving on. We wish Bill all the best in his new endeavours and thank him for setting such a high standard for others to follow. We thank him for all the hard work and time that he put in to our program, not an easy thing to do for anyone, let alone a self employed businessman. When we as an ownership group looked around our community for a successor to Bill, many qualified names were mentioned but it quickly became clear that there was only one man for the job and that man is Jeff Perry. When you read his resume, this man could easily be applying for an OHL AHL or NHL head-coaching job. He is a Sarnian, born and raised. The new Legionnaires are about bringing history forward and the Perry family is an icon in Sarnia sports legend. For example, our football park is names for Jeff's grandfather, the galloping ghost -- Norm Perry. While playing in the AHL in 1994-95, Jeff was named the CCM Man of the Year. This award is presented annually to the player that makes outstanding contributions to the community and charitable causes. Sounds like the Sarnia Legionnaires to me. As a coach, Jeff is known to be honest, meticulous in detail, and will not be outworked on or off the ice. When not at the rink, Jeff is a sales associate with Royal LePage Key Realty and we encourage everyone in our extended network to contact Jeff for all your real estate needs. This man, Jeff Perry, was destined to become a Sarnia Legionnaire and we are very fortunate that he has agreed to join us. The Sarnia Legionnaires welcome Jeff, his wife, Robin and their children Brock and Ella into our family.
Western Conference Champions![]() Check out the Article by Dan McCaffery in the Sarnia Observer just click on the picture above More Western Conference Pictures Here Western Ontario Conference Website Saturday April 4 2009 The Sarnia Legionnaires claimed the Bill Weir Trophy as GOJHL Western Conference champions with a 4-1 win over the London Nationals on Saturday. The Legionnaires won the best-of-seven final in six games. Tyler Cicchini's 14th goal of the play-offs on the power play midway through the second period broke a 1-1 tie and proved to be the championship-winning goal. Cicchini scored 15 goals in 42 regular season games. The Legionnaires added two goals (including an empty-netter) late in the third period with 1.8 seconds left to seal their sixth league/conference title since 1979 and their first since 2002 when the then-named Sarnia Blast went on to win the Sutherland Cup. Legionnaires netminder Matt Berglund (W, 12-6) stopped 40 of 41 shots faced, while Nationals goalie Mike Coulter (L, 10-7) made 34 saves. The Legionnaires advance to the Sutherland Cup double-round-robin series against the Midwestern Conference champion Brantford Golden Eagles and the Stoney Creek Warriors, champions of the Golden Horseshoe Conference. The top two teams from this round will face each other in the best-of-seven Sutherland Cup Championship. Schedule details for the round-robin series will be announced in the next few days. |

Please come and support the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 62 Ronald McDonald House
Ronald McDonald House of Southwestern Ontario is here to provide a welcome, supportive and secure environment to out-of-town families of seriously ill or injured children who are in London receiving medical treatment for their child. Over the past five years, the House has provided accommodation and support to nearly 200 families from Sarnia/Lambton. After long days at the hospital families can come back to the House for a home cooked meal and stay in a private bedroom just steps from the Hospital door. At the House families can get away from the beeps and noise of the hospital and connect with other families who are dealing with similar issues affecting their children. The cost to families to access these services is only $10 per night and no family is ever turned away due to an inability to pay. The number of families needing our ‘home-away-from-home' continues to grow - and so must we. Plans are underway to expand our House to serve even more families of sick and injured children from Sarnia/Lambton and across Southwestern Ontario. We're pleased to have the support of McDonald's Restaurants of Sarnia and the Sarnia Legionnaires Hockey Team to help us raise the funds needed to expand Ronald McDonald House of Southwestern Ontario.
